We are currently drafting the Three Year Education Plan for 2016-19. This follows extensive consultation to gain feedback on the educational priorities most important to the school community.
This year, we did things a little differently in terms of our consultation process. For the first time, we used technology to gain as many different voices, ideas and insights as possible. We also harnessed the power and passion of our students as researchers.
The consultation followed two stages. In the first stage conducted in January 2016, we used an innovative online tool called Thought Exchange. We invited parents, students, staff and community members to go online and share all their thoughts on education in our schools. Then, whether they had added thoughts or not, all stakeholders had the chance to reflect on the thoughts of others by adding stars to those that most reflected their priorities.
In the second stage, we trained students to lead individual and group consultations to gather more in-depth insights. In February and March 2016, students facilitated feedback sessions/interviews with rotary clubs, town councils and residents throughout Sturgeon County. Students did a fantastic job, conducting themselves with characteristic professionalism and proficiency.
