Sturgeon Public School Division is thrilled to be completing a major modernization project at Sturgeon Composite High School. The project is well underway, with construction being phased in over a two-year period of time. Please visit this section for regular updates as well as answers to our "Question Box."
Location: Sturgeon Composite High School 30, 24400 Hwy 37, Sturgeon County
Planned Completion: September 2017
Project Management: Alberta Infrastructure
Architectural Firm: BR2
Construction Lead: Synergy Project Ltd.
The scope of the project is as follows:
The design concept for Sturgeon Composite High School was based on the following principles.
Student safety is a primary concern. Changes were needed to increase student security by moving the office to the front of the school. Additionally, we have a number of buses that deliver students to the school but a flow of traffic that moves through our bus lanes which does not help with students coming into the school.
The interior of the school will be opened up to allow for a greater sense of community through the open design. Additionally, the use of glass will provide an ability to view the school in action. Staff and students are able to work in a more collaborative environment.
Over time, schools deal with changes in programming, student enrollment, curriculum, and changes to society in general. The plan is designed to allow for as much flexibility in the programming spaces as possible. As programming changes, the space needs to be able to adapt to those changes.
Sturgeon Composite High School is showing signs of aging. Mechanical systems and the building itself needs updating to keep down the costs of maintenance.
