Here are the latest new images with information on what is happening at SCHS.
The ceilings in the school have been removed. This allows the contractors to start working on the air ventaliation and electrical systems in the school.
Some students are being asked to move from the lockers as we move lockers around the school. This allows the contractors to remove drywall in areas and prepare for new walls to come in place during the next phase.
Our cafeteria is undergoing a massive transformation right now. Currently, our south east wall has been hoarded off so that we can remove a wall. The wall removal is necessary so that a new steel beam can be installed on the other side.
The drywall in the cafeteria has been removed. The entire cafeteria has been abated now so it is prepared for when demolition work occurs there over the summer.
The new lights have been installed in the north gym. So far our reviews have been very positive as the lighting is much improved.
The drama room is being abated at the moment. There are some significant changes happening in this area. Once the room is cleaned up, construction will begin soon.
Our south gym is mainly being used as a staging area at the moment. A lot of material is being stored there but we are getting in quotes for bleachers, curtains, signage and sound systems.
What you see now is a view of the office and library commons area from the front entrance. The supports will be removed as we continue to add new structural steel. Eventually, walls will begin to rise in this area as the office takes shape.
Our atrium areas are being dug out and fill will be brought in to create the floor for our new classrooms. Each of the atrium areas will have clerestory lighting which will bring in natural lighting into those classrooms.
Another view of our office area.
Our library commons is starting to take shape as you can see bulkheads being built. Ventilation systems are also being built.
This is one of our air handling units. Since the start of the semester, we’ve had varying degrees of dust that have entered into the main hallways due to the nature of the work they are currently doing. We’ve asked the contractors to reduce the amount of dust that enter into the main school area. Each of these air handling units create a negatiuve air pressure situation to occur which keeps a majority of the dust in the construction zone. As we see dust increase, we continue to let the contractors know and they continue to adjust the area to minimize the impact in the school.
Our center pyramid area is getting ready for the new clerestory. Right now scaffolding is holding the main air handling unit on the roof. As you can see in the photos, a section of wall has been cut out from the wall. This area will have a structural steel column installed to hold up the air handling unit while the new windows are installed.
A new wall has come up. This is a wall that creates two classroom spaces.
With the pyramid being replaced, there was a concern that the school would become very cold. The contractor therefore is installed a weather barrier in the center core area where the pyramid is to keep the cold inside this area. The goal is to minimize the amount of cold air entering the building.
