Students at Guthrie School love to get involved with the community. During the 2011-12 school year, Grade 6 students held a garage sale to raise funds for the Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS). The students made posters, collected goods for the sale and encouraged everyone they met to purchase items or make donations to this very worthy cause. Their hard work paid off when they were able to donate $1,000 to SCARS. The organization was thrilled with their efforts and brought in a couple of rescue dogs as a reward for the students.
Grade 3 students also made a huge difference this year – one cent at a time. Their Pennies for People campaign was set in motion to raise funds for the local food bank. Those pennies sure did add up quickly – over $1,000 was raised and donated to community members in need.
