Are there school fees? Who sets them?
The Board of Trustees of Sturgeon School Division determines instructional material fees. For the 2010-2011 school year, basic material fees are:
- Elementary $45.00 per year
- Junior High $57.00 per year
- Senior High $49.50 per semester, or for those students in less than a 10 credit load, $3.75 per credit
Note: There are also some additional fees charged by the school. Please contact the individual school for details.
Rental of individual textbooks is pursuant to guidelines in Policy D/I/13.
Where can I get detailed information about the curriculum my child will be taught?
Curriculum refers to student expectations in each course of study or school subject and is defined by Alberta Education. Curriculum is reviewed and revised regularly by teachers, parents, university professors and other stakeholders in education, and is approved by the Minister of Education for implementation in all Alberta schools. The Curriculum Handbook for Parents is a resource that assists parents in understanding what their children are expected to learn from kindergarten through Grade 12.

What is FOIP and what impact does it have on my child?
FOIP stands for Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy. All public institutions in Alberta govern their actions in light of FOIP regulations. At the school level, FOIP ensures that each student’s privacy is protected. All Sturgeon School Division school registration forms have been assessed using current Alberta FOIP regulations. What additional resources are there to help my child?
At Sturgeon School Division, we strive to meet the needs of all students. In addition to regular programming, we also provide a wide range of specialized programs to meet the unique needs of our students. If you believe that your child requires additional resources, please talk to your child’s teacher to discuss your child’s needs and progress.
How do I register my child?
To register your child, please contact the school directly. Staff in the school office will be able to register your child and answer your questions or direct you to the appropriate personnel.

Does Sturgeon School Division offer French Immersion?
Currently, none of our schools offer the French Immersion Program. Our schools do provide a wide variety of fine arts and language programs to students.
