Sports Leadership

Sports Academy and Sports Leadership are programs offered at select Sturgeon schools for students in Grades 5 to 9. It offers youth the opportunity to train and develop skills in a variety of athletics. While the main focus is on hockey (30 to 40 per cent), other sports and activities explored may include football, rugby, rock climbing, baseball, swimming and track and field.

The goals are to:

  • Develop balanced athletes with an emphasis on overall fitness and health
  • Promote good sportsmanship in a safe and controlled environment
  • Develop and improve a variety of athletic skills
  • Promote the passion for sports and active living

The instruction includes part of the student’s Physical Education curriculum requirements, all Health curriculum requirements and time outlined for other subjects/optional courses for respective grade levels.
