Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)
Prerequisite: HCS3000 and HCS3010
The Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) is an apprenticeship program for high school students who learn the skills of a trade while earning high school credits.
For students
RAP means getting a head start in a career. As early as Grade 10, students can start learning their trade...gaining real work experience and getting paid!
In addition to a wage, RAP apprentices may earn credits toward their high school diploma and begin acquiring the hours of on-the-job training to become a certified journeyperson.
The time a RAP student spends at school and on the work site is quite flexible. The student, Off-Campus Coordinator and employer jointly agree to a suitable schedule. The student might work as a RAP apprentice for a semester, half a day, or one or two days a week. Summers, holidays and weekends are also an option.
The flexible, module based approach offered at SLC allows students to be working on high school courses during their apprenticeship.
RAP Scholarship
In Grade 12, RAP apprentices can apply for scholarships, including the Alexander Rutherford Scholarship and a $1,000 RAP Scholarship.
