Why do some children thrive while others struggle? That is the question internationally renowned youth expert, Derek Petersen, will explore at a workshop hosted by four Sturgeon Public School Division schools on October 2, 3 and 4, 2017. The event will focus on how developing “webs of support” can help schools and communities support youth in becoming more resilient to social challenges and thrive in overcoming adversity and helping others.
Happening at the Gibbons Community Centre (5115 - 51 Street, Gibbons), this free event is designed for students, parents and anyone who supports youth and/or is interested in the overall wellbeing of young people.
“This workshop will give participants meaningful, measurable and memorable strategies and methods that support youth to get on, and stay on, a course towards resilience and success,” explains Kristine Wilkinson, Principal at Gibbons School. “Our hope is to have people leave with a renewed energy and passion for working with and supporting youth,” she adds.
The event is hosted by Lillian Schick School, Gibbons School, Bon Accord School, Landing Trail School and three partnering municipalities.
