Land & Agriculture

The purpose of land and agriculture-based learning programs is to enrich students' education through immersive, hands-on experiences that connect them with the natural world. By integrating outdoor learning environments, interactions with animals, and agricultural practices into our curriculum, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of ecology and sustainability. These programs offer students the unique benefits of experiential learning, enhancing their knowledge and appreciation of nature while promoting physical health, mental well-being, and a sense of responsibility towards the environment. Through this holistic approach, students gain practical skills and insights that encourage lifelong stewardship of the land and a profound connection to the world around them.

Animal Health & Wellness

The Animal Wellness program at Gibbons School offers equine-assisted learning for students in grades 7-9. Through personalized horse pairings, students gain confidence, develop teamwork skills, and foster empathy, all while acquiring proficiency in animal care. Supervised by certified teachers, this program replaces complementary classes, ensuring a supportive and enriching environment for all participants.

Green Certificate

Embracing our division's deep-rooted rural heritage, we take immense pride in introducing the Green Certificate program for our High School students. This program is tailored to nurture the aspirations of students who share a passion for the dynamic realm of agricultural business.

As our students embark on this educational adventure, they acquire not only the theoretical knowledge but also the practical skills and attitudes necessary for success in the agricultural industry. By actively engaging with experienced farm professionals, our students learn directly from those who have honed their expertise through years of hands-on work.

Land Based Learning

Through land-based learning, we empower our students to cultivate a strong, harmonious, and sustainable bond with the land, fostering a brighter future for all. Students have the  opportunity to connect with the land, delving into its rich teachings and understanding their place within it. In Cree, Wahkohtowin embodies the intricate relationship between humans and our non-human relatives, emphasizing interconnectedness and reciprocity. As stewards of the land, we recognize that our actions reverberate throughout our environment, shaping the world around us. It's not just about what we take, but how we give back and nurture this relationship with kindness, respect, and gratitude. Join us on this journey of discovery, connection, and stewardship.

Learning Farm

Step into the world of the Morinville Learning Farm, where agricultural education flourishes! Situated within the school grounds at École Morinville Public School, this innovative initiative features a bustling chicken coop, setting the stage for hands-on learning experiences. With 16 cheerful hens making their home in the coop, students take the reins, tending to daily tasks such as egg collection and coop maintenance. Supported by parents and staff, students also manage the sale of eggs, ensuring the sustainability of our farm. At the forefront of agricultural programming in Alberta, the Learning Farm offers students a unique opportunity to engage with nature, develop practical skills, and foster a strong sense of community. Grounded in research highlighting the importance of belonging and connection, this initiative empowers students to thrive both academically and personally.
