Alberta Education Parent Survey
Alberta Education will be conducting the annual Accountability Pillar Survey from January to the end of February. As an annual check-up on the education system, the Accountability Pillar provides an opportunity for Alberta Education and school authorities to ensure we’re equipping students for success. In January, parents of students in grades 4, 7 and 10 will receive a survey from Alberta Education. In February, students in grades 4, 7 and 10 and all teachers will be completing their surveys online at school. For schools with fewer than 100 students in grades 4 to 12, parents and students grades 4 and up will be included.
Available in several languages, all surveys are anonymous and ask questions about experiences with your child’s school. By completing the survey, you are giving your school, your school authority and your provincial government important information to gauge the quality of education your child is receiving. We encourage you to return your survey promptly.
Details about the Accountability Pillar and how to obtain results are available online at www.education.alberta.ca/accountability.

Sturgeon Staff Fighting to Make Cancer History
Sponsored by the Canadian Cancer Society, Relay for Life is a walk/run where teams participate in an overnight event that raises money for cancer advocacy and research. Sturgeon School Division staff are participating again this year to cooperate in making cancer history. The event takes place at Foote Field in Edmonton on Saturday, May 29, from 4 pm until 8 am. Sturgeon staff, their families, and friends can join school teams. The event is appropriate for all ages and is overnight to reflect the fight against cancer—cancer does not sleep, and for one night a year, neither will we.
Staff are challenging the community to make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society through a Sturgeon school team. Interested community members are also invited to volunteer for the event or participate. To register, visit http://convio.cancer.ca and navigate to “Edmonton Relay for Life.” The cost is $15 for each participant.

Our graduates are prepared for citizenship, post-secondary studies and the world of work. Our schools focus on helping children develop emotionally, intellectually, physically, morally and spiritually into creative and critical thinkers with strong communicative and computational skills. The learning environment emphasizes discipline, achievement and responsibility.
Welcome to Sturgeon School Division
We have a long history of educational excellence and are especially proud of the community atmosphere that exists at our schools. This helps create a positive learning environment where students feel co mfortable and safe, and parents are encouraged to get involved.
Student success is the focus of our educational programs. In addition to continuing success in provincial achievement tests and diploma exams, many of our students are rewarded with the Alexander Rutherford scholarships. Students in our vocational programs also achieve high levels of success, winning top honours in local, provincial and national competitions.
We offer a wide range of programming options, from regular core subjects to advanced placement to vocational training. We also offer the Head Start programs to assist young children with communication and school readiness skills as well as an alternate high school program for students who are unable to learn within a traditional high school setting.
