Overview
Sturgeon Collegiate’s Aviation Pathway offers students a unique opportunity to begin their journey toward a career in aviation — starting in high school. This specialized program blends hands-on aviation training, dual credit post-secondary courses, and rigorous academic instruction, ensuring students are both technically skilled and academically prepared.
Students can work toward obtaining their Private Pilot License (PPL), gain exposure to flight operations, ground handling, and aviation customer service, and earn CTS credits and dual credits that count toward graduation and post-secondary transition.
This program is developed in partnership with:
- Edmonton Airports (ZVL)
- Elevate Aviation
- MacEwan University
You’re not just learning about aviation — you’re living it. From theory to the tarmac, this program prepares you for takeoff.
Dual Credit with MacEwan University
A key component of the Aviation Pathway is the opportunity for students to earn post-secondary credits through a dual credit partnership with MacEwan University.
Students will begin earning credit toward a Business Management diploma with a specialization in Aviation Management. This integration allows students to:
- Earn high school and post-secondary credit at the same time
- Build early momentum toward a career in aviation business or operations
- Begin their diploma pathway while still in high school
Currently, students will complete three foundational courses as part of the dual credit offering. These courses are structured to ensure a smooth transition into MacEwan University’s Aviation Management specialization after graduation.

Real-World Experience
Through field-based learning at Villeneuve Airport (ZVL) and training with Elevate Aviation, students will gain firsthand insight into:
- Flight planning & simulation
- Navigation systems
- Ground crew operations

- Service and terminal procedures
This multi-layered exposure ensures students graduate with practical knowledge, professional connections, and a clear understanding of aviation careers.
